FIM Supermoto: Chareyre claims maiden championship in Catalonia

747 Motorsport's Thomas Chareyre has claimed his maiden Supermoto S1 championship with a measuredl display at the season-closing Grand Prix in Catalonia.

The Husqvarna CH Racing team dominated the Catalan event, with Mauno Hermunen taking the overall win ahead of team-mate Adrien Chareyre.

Hermunen took the holshot in the three races and dominated the first and second from beginning to end. In the third Chareyre produced a superb ride to frustrate Hermunen, though the Finn still sealed the overall win. Thus he finishes third in the end of year standings, 30 points behind the world champion.

That title now belongs to 747 Motorsport's Thomas Chareyre, who completed the podium and thus sealed his maiden FIM S1 Word Championship. The French rider arrived in Salou level in points with his teammate Davide Gozzini but Chareyre ended second in the first race and then played it safe, finishing fourth in the last two heats.

Fourth overall was other 747 Motorsport bike of Gozzini, who could only finish fifth in race one after starting from the second row of the grid. In the second race the Italian produced a good start, but a small mistake in lap two cost him a number of positions and he again finished fifth. Gozzini had to win the race to keep fighting for the title, but when the Italian caught leader Adrien Chareyre it was too late and he was forced to settle for second place in this year's championship.
