SuperMoto: Title battle heads for five-way Catalan decider

The 2010 FIM SuperMoto World Championship concludes this weekend with the Grand Prix of Catalunya in Salou-Port Aventura, Spain.

For what promises to be a hugely dramatic finale team-mates Thomas Chareyre and Davide Gozini arrive at the Catalan street circuit level on points at the top of the standings following an unpredictable year of SuperMoto competition.

The 747 Motorsport TM Racing pairing’s 2010 records are virtually identical with each having obtained one Grand Prix victory, four heat wins and the same number of podium finishes – only Chareyre’s superior number of laps led set them apart. As such each mans knows full well what the other is capable of.

They will be joined in battle for the title by Thierry Van Den Bosch, Mauno Hermunen, Ivan Lazzarini and Bernd Hiemer, all of whom retain a chance to be crowned champion on the Catalan streets. Van Den Bosch enters the race 35-points shy of top spot, making the title an outside but not impossible bet for the Dutchman. Next up is Mauno Hermunen, 42-points off the lead, with rank outsiders Ivan Lazzarini and Bernd Hiemer 68 and 73-points off the TM Racing pairing respectively with 75 up for grabs in Spain.
