SuperMoto: Hermunen takes maiden victory

Mauro Hermunen secured his maiden FIM SuperMoto World Championship overall win in Bulgaria at the weekend, while second place Thomas Chareyre recovered the points lead.

Hermunen, riding for Husqvarna CH Racing, clinched the Superpole for the opening race, but found the going tough as he slipped to third at the finish behind 747 Motorsport TM Racing team-mates Davide Gozzini and Chareyre.

The Finnish rider was peerless in motos 2 and 3 however, heading home Chareyre in both to finish the weekend with four points more than the Frenchman and therefore the overall victory.

Chareyre’s three second place finishes sealed second overall and saw him retake the leader’s red plate from Gozzini on results count back as both riders have equal points.

Gozzini looked on course to extend his lead after dominating the first moto but could only manage fourth place in the other two races.

Adrien Chareyre (Husqvarna CH Racing) just missed out on the overall podium in fourth place, but twice stood on the rostrum after finishing third in races 2 and 3, both times fighting hard with his brother Thomas. He was sixth in the opening event.

Thierry van den Bosch (PMR H2O Aprilia Racing) completed the top five for the round. He was a solid fourth in the opening moto but had to race the next two on his spare bike after a problem with his regular Aprilia. After struggling initially with the set-up, he battled his way to fifth and sixth.

Suzuki’s Christian Ravaglia secured his best result of the season in sixth, although he was fortunate to be classified fifth in the opening moto after his crash brought out the red flags. After avoiding serious injury he returned to take fifth and sixth in the remaining races.
