Hermunen takes red plate in Bulgaria

Factory Husqvarna rider Mauno Hermunen scored overall victory in round 2 of the FIM Supermoto World Championship in Bulgaria at the weekend as the Finnish rider took two of the three race victories in Pleven.

Hermunen missed the podium in the opening moto of the weekend as he settled for fourth place having made a pass on home rider Angel Karanyotov on the final lap, but then he stamped his authority on the event with two strong rides to victory in races 2 and 3.

Second place in all three races ensured Aprilia’s Adrien Chareyre the second step on the overall podium and moved the Frenchman up the championship standings following a disappointing run in the opening round.

Third went to Honda’a Ivan Lazzarini. The Italian led the first race from start to finish having won the Superpole and also managed podium finishes in race 2 and 3.

Reigning champion Thomas Chareyre was classified fourth after a tough day for the TM rider. Chareyre fought hard with Lazzarini and his brother, Adrien, in the first race on his way to third place, but crashed in the second and could only recover to 11th at the flag. Fifth in the final event of the weekend wasn’t enough to keep his points lead in tact as he slips to second behind Hermunen.

Thierry van den Bosch (Aprilia), Christian Ravaglia (Suzuki), Uros Nastran (Honda) and Mark Winstanley (Honda) finished in fifth to eighth places while home hero Karanyotov (KTM) and French ace Alexis Marie Luce (KTM) completed the top ten.
